Essential Questions to Ask Your Wedding Vendors

When selecting vendors for your wedding, it's crucial to ask the right questions to ensure everything goes according to plan on your special day. And unless you are an event planner by trade or can miraculously conjure your very own fairy godmother, picking a vendor will feel like a daunting task luckily for you, we have made a list of questions for you to ask your vendors to soothe those nerves before signing on the dotted line. 

1. “How many weddings have you worked on, and do you have experience with weddings  similar to ours in terms of size and style?”

This may go without saying for some but we wouldn’t want to leave our bride-to-be in the dark now, would we? 

It is important that you ask how long your vendor of choice has been in business and their experience in handling events similar to yours. Along with asking for references or reviews from previous clients that align with your vision for your special day.  This way you can get a better understanding of your vendors work ethic and reliability. 

2. “Are you available on our wedding date, and how many other events will you be handling that day?”

Knowing whether your vendor is available on your wedding day will provide you with peace of mind above no other. That will allow you to move forward confidently during your wedding planning process! Not to mention this helps prevent double booking, which could lead to complications or last-minute cancellations which you do not want. 

3. “ What services are included in your package and are there any additional fees we should be aware of?”

This is the part where you have to assert yourself and begin to carefully dissect the vendor's offer! 

An offer in the form of an invoice will be sent over containing details such as travel and accommodation, a payment schedule including tax, and cancellation or refund policies just in case of mishaps.  

So pay close attention, be firm, and remember to keep track of payments you have already paid to avoid overpaying. 

4. “How do you typically coordinate with other vendors, such as the wedding planner and other wedding professionals? What is your preferred method of communication leading up to the wedding day?”

If there is even an inkling that this could be a possibility—not being able to cohesively coordinate with your vendors—we strongly recommend asking. Effective and clear communication is key!  

5. “What is your Plan B in case of emergencies, such as equipment failure or inclement weather? How do you handle emergencies or last- minute changes?”

Assessing the level of preparedness of your vendors should be at the top of your list! Assuming their precaution process without asking is a recipe for disaster, instead, we urge you to  take the time to discuss specifics, to see to it that both of you guys are on the same page.
